The Creation of the
Half Moon Replica
The replica ship was built in Albany, New York in 1989 by Dr. Andrew A. Hendricks in order to promote the early history of the State of New York. Henry Hudson's voyage in the Half Moon (Halve Maen) in 1609 led to the founding of New Netherland, comprising the present States of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.
A Vision for Education and Cultural Legacy
The ship construction fulfilled Dr. Hendricks' dream to use the historic ship as an educational way to highlight the importance of the Dutch contribution to the American way of life.
In 2009, The Half Moon (Halve Maen) was the centerpiece for the celebration of the State of New York's 400th Anniversary. The Half Moon (Halve Maen) led a parade of ships in New York Harbor, and later visited towns and cities along the Hudson River. Dr. Andrew Hendricks was knighted on September 7th, 2009 by Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands for his contributions to Dutch-American history.

Dr. Hendricks was Knighted on September 7, 2009, by Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands for his contributions to Dutch-American educational programs. In 2009, Dr. Hendricks helped organize the 400th Anniversary Celebration in New York City and along the Hudson River.
